The City of San Diego says all dogs shall be maintained on a leash not to exceed 8 feet, including on trails and canyons in all parks. In designated off-leash areas, dogs must be leashed until inside the posted boundary. The city asks owners to make sure the dog’s required vaccinations are up to date, that the dog is wearing a current license from the San Diego Humane Society, to always pick up after the pet, and not to bring a puppy to the park until all required vaccinations are complete. These are City of San Diego rules, so check with your own city if you live elsewhere in San Diego County. Your Dogs and City Parks (checked October 4, 2026).
